Romantic elegant luxe micro wedding at Maitland Art & History Museums in Maitland, FL | Orlando Wedding Photographer & Videographer
Author Made team photographer Maddie along with creative lead & founder Michael captured this small yet elegant wedding in Maitland, just north of Orlando, FL.
As more and more couples embrace micro weddings, the old connotation that micro = low-quality simply isn’t true anymore. We’re seeing an ever-growing number of our couples opt to tie the knot in small celebrations that feel elevated and luxurious without the price tag.
Maria & Caleb’s intimate wedding day was exactly that. Emotional and intentional, their celebration included just 25 of their closest family & friends at Maitland Art & History Museums in a day that felt less like an event and more like a deeply personal gathering. As an Orlando wedding photography team, we still love our large, energetic weddings, but there’s something incredibly special and grounding about a micro wedding where every single guest plays a part in the day.
Old world romance meets modern love
In our initial conversations, we asked bride Maria what her wedding day vision was. “Old world romance, vintage, and timeless,” she replied. Wanting photos that would still feel beautiful and relevant 15 years from now, her wedding exuded classic elegance in a setting that already felt rich with history.
Their engagement story brought the modern love to her old world romance vision. Caleb planned a proposal during a trip to Puerto Rico in October 2024. He coordinated a photoshoot, gave Maria a subtle heads up that something might happen, and then surprised her anyway during the session. It was thoughtful, intentional, and meaningful, very much like the two of them (and their upcoming wedding day).
Honestly, they were one of the most relaxed couples we’ve ever seen on their wedding day! Their dynamic felt steady, affectionate, yet loads of fun together.
An intimate micro wedding at Maitland’s Art & History Museums
For a 25-person wedding, venue size matters. The grounds at Maitland Art & History Museums are expansive, but the layout allows smaller weddings to feel intimate rather than swallowed up by space.
The ceremony took place outdoors at the iconic Mayan Chapel at 4:00 PM. The chapel’s historic stonework and architectural details create a romantic, European feel that aligns beautifully with a vintage-inspired wedding aesthetic. After 4PM, the lighting softens significantly, making the space even more flattering for both guests and photography.
The reception was also held outdoors, allowing guests to enjoy the gardens, courtyards, and brick pathways that make this venue so distinctive among Central Florida wedding locations. If rain had been an issue, the Germaine Building would have served as a backup, but the weather cooperated at sunny, warm, and around 80 degrees.
Photographer Pro Tips: We’ve shot several weddings at the Art & History Museums and find the venue’s greenery provides natural shade for afternoon and evening weddings, while morning weddings benefit from full, direct sunlight. We’ve seen both done beautifully, but the most soft, filtered light and shaded areas come out in afternoon or early evening ceremonies. One nighttime challenge to be aware of: the Mayan Courtyard has minimal lighting after dark, primarily market lights, so if you’re planning an outdoor reception here, be sure to ask your photographer about flash or stand lighting to ensure visibility for your wedding photos.

Elegant details that matter
Maria & Caleb’s color palette of green and gold complemented the historic setting perfectly, echoing the venue’s lush greenery and earthen details.
The ceremony altar was framed with large white floral arrangements in urns, and Maria carried a classic all-white bouquet. Reception tables were dressed in white linens with green napkins, green glassware, and gold accents. The florals remained primarily white with wild greenery sprigs, creating a look that felt opulent yet refined.
One standout detail was the champagne tower, which later made for a celebratory moment that photographed beautifully and added just the right amount of drama to the evening.
Maria’s gown featured off-the-shoulder straps, a sweetheart neckline, and a fitted silhouette. The semi-sheer corset-style back added softness while maintaining the timeless shape she envisioned. Caleb complemented her look in a classic suit, keeping the focus on the elegance of the overall aesthetic.
An emotional, family-centric ceremony
The most emotional moment of the day was undoubtedly the ceremony itself. Caleb’s father officiated, which made the experience even more meaningful. When Maria walked down the aisle, Caleb was visibly overwhelmed with tears and deep breaths. (We love an emotional groom moment!)
There was an added layer of significance throughout the day, as Maria’s mother had been battling cancer. Many guests weren’t sure if the wedding would happen as planned. That reality made every hug, every smile, and every quiet moment together feel even more powerful.
After the ceremony, we gathered everyone in the courtyard for family portraits before stepping away to the main gardens and near the Germaine Building for couple portraits. The property offers beautiful shaded areas in the afternoon, and the brick road running east-west provides a stunning lake view at sunset.
…followed by a high-energy reception
The reception began at 6:00 PM, and from there, the energy kept building all night long!
Caleb is the life of the party and an unexpectedly skilled dancer. There was a strong sense of Latin flair woven into the evening, with salsa-style spins and lively group dancing that kept the momentum going for nearly three hours straight. At one point, after cutting the cake, Caleb cracked open a beer and chugged it in one go, fully embracing the celebratory mood. The champagne tower pour was another highlight as an elegant, fun, and perfect visual centerpiece. Maria & Caleb would drift in and out of the dance circle together, laughing, spinning, and occasionally getting carried away with the music. They are deeply connected to their families, and that closeness was evident all night.
Maria & Caleb’s micro wedding didn’t need to be over the top, expansive or flashy to be meaningful. Every guest present had deep significance, and every detail felt thoughtful and intentional.
