It’s not often we get to experience a winter wedding in Orlando, so when it does happen, it’s a special and priceless kind of magic. Barbara & Robert’s wedding day dawned at a record-breaking 25ºF (-4ºC), making this day indeed a tropical winter wonderland!
After reconnecting over Instagram after ten years, the pair started dating two years ago. About a year ago, Robert nervously proposed at Bok Tower Gardens, and then it was time to plan a wedding day that was part celebration, part heartfelt reunion with friends and family.
Barbara’s free-spirited energy pairs perfectly with Robert’s military precision. She brings emotion, spontaneity, and a sense of joy to every moment, while Robert quietly grounds her energy with calm confidence. This blend of vibrancy with constancy makes for a great relationship and one that would easily navigate the unexpected, last-minute changes of their wedding day.
An indoor wedding ceremony at Leu Gardens
Both Barbara & Robert started their mornings at Leu Gardens. Robert was quick to get ready, capturing some shots with his brother before taking a seat and waiting for the ceremony to begin. Barbara spent the morning surrounded by family and friends, enjoying laughter, hugs, and some last-minute nerves.
Originally, the plan had been for an outdoor ceremony in the Butterfly Garden, but with late-morning temperatures only rising near 36°F, everything shifted indoors. The couple exchanged vows in a long, bright ceremony space with a beautiful atrium, officiated by both of their parents. Author Made team members Maddie and Rob were close by to capture every tear, smile, and heartfelt word.
Getting married at Leu Gardens in Orlando, FL
Barbara & Robert’s wedding at Leu Gardens was such a perfect fit for them, especially with the last-minute shift indoors due to the freezing February weather. While they had originally hoped for an outdoor ceremony, the bright, airy indoor space ended up being just right for their intimate group of 50 guests. The gardens surrounding the main house provided a gorgeous backdrop for family portraits and their quick bridal session, even in the chilly air, and team photographer Maddie along with team videographer Rob were able to capture both the warmth of the ceremony and the natural beauty of the grounds.
Leu Gardens really shines as a wedding venue for couples who want a mix of classic elegance and garden, relaxed vibes. Offering nearly 50 acres of botanical oasis in the heart of central Orlando, the grounds feel like an otherwordly paradise of winding paths, tropical enclaves, floral gardens, and hidden groves. Choose from one of 7 locations throughout the grounds to host your outdoor wedding ceremony (or get married indoors in case of inclement weather, as Barbara & Robert did), traverse the grounds and paths for romantic bridal portraits, and enjoy a wedding reception in one of the home’s 3 indoor spaces.
Photographer Pro Tips: Due to the abundant foliage and overhead trees, outdoor garden portraits are truly stunning. Lighting will be beautiful most times of day, but lakeside photos may face harsh shadows due to the limited shade. We found the indoor ceremony space wonderfully photogenic due to the sweeping windows, requiring no additional flash or stand lighting, as is often the case with indoor venues. Lastly, we’d recommend watching your timing: the gardens close in the evening, so make sure to schedule your bridal portrait session earlier to maximize full use of the space.

Spontaneous, romantic portraits
After the ceremony, the couple and their guests braved the cold for family portraits near the entrance of the gardens. Time constraints meant we couldn’t explore deeper into the gardens, but even in the limited space, we captured stunning images of Barbara & Robert together.
One of the most fun, unexpected moments of the day was a spontaneous mini shoot at the Foxtail coffee shop located inside the main house. The casual, playful energy of a coffee shop setting gave us some lighthearted images that balanced the day’s more formal moments perfectly.
Ending the night at Winter Park Country Club
The reception was hosted at Winter Park Country Club, prepared entirely by the couple’s family. Barbara & Robert hadn’t originally planned on including traditional reception elements, but as the night unfolded, they naturally added first dances, parent dances, speeches, and a cake cutting. Their spontaneous, organic approach to the day meant everything felt authentic and fun.
Even with the indoor room temperature around 61°F, the warmth of family, friends, and love made the space feel cozy. Maddie and Rob captured all of it, focusing on the emotions, hugs, and laughter that made this day so personal.
Barbara & Robert’s wedding was traditional in its love and commitment but laidback in how it unfolded. They embraced spontaneity, trusted their team, and focused on what mattered most: each other and the people who love them. Watching Robert balance his military precision with Barbara’s free spirit was heartwarming. It was clear that he learned to slow down, be present, and allow her moments to shine and that she, in turn, relied on his steady presence to navigate a cold, shifting day.
Their wedding day goes to show that even if weather derails your original plans (although in Florida, it’s usually rain and not cold to watch out for!), a strong relationship and a focus on what really matters on your wedding day will carry you through and make the day meaningful and special even with all the twists and turns. Barbara & Robert, congratulations on your special day and here’s to many happy years together!
